Seat battery
Compartment

The battery compartment is made exactly to fit the Hawker RGT batteries standing on the ledges in
the back and the front of the compartment. With the RGTs the sheet steel plate does not really support
anything. It is just protecting the batteries underside from impacts etc. As the NiCads are quite smaller
and doesn't fit the legdes additional supports had to be welded in before the batteries were glued in
place. Note the piece of garden hose connected to the water inlet of the first battery. The hose goes
through a hole in the battery compartment and ends just behind the passenger seat. A similar
hose, ending up under the car, drains excess water from the last battery. This allows the
batteries to be refilled with water without having to dismantle the seats or the battery compartment.

When putting on the lid I detected that the NiCads are about 3 cm higher than the old RGTs.
This resulted in a gap between the comparment walls and the lid which I fixed with some yards
of black duct-tape. As a more permanent solution I did later prolong the sides of the lid
with some black plastic sheets which looks quite like the stuff used in the compartment itself.
